Our old friend and musical comrade Jerome Derradji – owner/manager/curator of the fine Chicago based imprints Still Music, Stillove4music, and Past Due Records – finally gets to launch a long overdue Chicago Still Music residency at the recently opened Primary nightclub this Friday. The launch night features a headlining dj set from Detroit’s Rick “The Godson” Wilhite, a performance from the Toronto-based BASIC SOUL UNIT (Stuart Li), and an opening resident dj set from Derradji. Perhaps best known for his contributions to the 3 Chairs project, Rick Wilhite’s most recent Still Music release (2011’s superb Analog Aquarium) resonates with warm funk that is inherently Detroit. Not to be outdone, Stuart Li’s collection of Basic Soul Unit releases for the likes of Ostgut Ton, Creme Organization, Mule Electronic, and of course Still Music, is the simplest proof of his production demand, not to mention the fact that Li’s performance here doubles up as a launch for his North American tour.

Still Music has always been on point musically, so it’s a given that this night will be a funky one from start to finish. (Also, it’s been several months since we’ve mentioned any new events on the site, so you know this is something we’re pretty excited about!)
